About Starbucks logo

I hate Starbucks period. *got that out of the way*... But I must say, its an extremely effective logo that people recognize today. =)

---
Ever wonder about the image inside starbucks logo.?
Well people, Its a "whore" but the correct term is a siren or mermaid. there is a lot of confusion between the different mythological half-women. Typically they are called Sirens - both the half-bird/half-woman and the half-fish/half-woman varieties. The fish type are usually called Mermaids. Both types according to the ancient Greeks were in the business of seducing mariners with songs and promises of sex and then killing them.

What does sirens/mermaids have to do with coffee?
according to this... “Terry [Heckler]…pored over old marine books until he came up with a logo based on an old sixteenth-century Norse woodcut: a two-tailed mermaid, or siren, encircled by the store’s original name, Starbucks Coffee, Tea, and Spice. That early siren, bared-breasted and Rubenesque, was supposed to be as seductive as coffee itself.”

hmmm okay i guess... *confused*

Why is the new logo green now?
according to Schultz..."After failing to convince the original owners of Starbucks to serve espresso beverages, Schultz raised the seed capital to open his own espresso cafĂ©, Il Giornale in 1986. “Our logo reflected the emphasis on speed. The Il Giornale name was inscribed in a green circle that surrounded a head of Mercury, the swift messenger god.”

-now this is understandable

My conclusion...
I still hate Starbucks & it's overrated...but in the end Starbucks is a multimillion business that thrive on their coffee and with the new hybrid logo in which became more modest with her wavy hair covering up her bare breasts, but the split-tailed mermaid was still a little too risky for some folks. So Terry revisited the design with Doug Fast *logo designer* and created the logo we see today. They cropped the siren so that only a hint of her tails was visible, and she lost her prominent navel.
